CIP vs Open Equipment Cleaning

Distinguish clean-in-place circulation through closed circuits from direct access cleaning of belts, brushes and screens.

01 / selection

Identify the closed circuit

A CIP skid circulates the agreed cleaning fluid through compatible tanks, pipes and equipment. Circuit size, return route, valves and monitoring need to be defined before its pump and process duty can be specified.

02 / selection

Keep open machines accessible

Conveyor return belts, brush beds, press rollers and removable pulper screens require access, isolation and direct inspection. A closed-circuit skid should not be described as cleaning every exposed food-contact surface in a line.

03 / selection

Plan verification and changeover

Agree the cleaning procedure and how coverage and residues will be checked for each machine. Product changeover and fouling affect the schedule, while manual parts and circulation circuits need their own responsibilities.
